Ellis Island opened in 1892 as a federal immigration station, a purpose it served for more than 60 years (it closed in1954). Millions of newly arrived immigrants passed through the station during that time–in fact, it has been estimated that close to 40 percent of all current U.S. citizens can trace at least one of their ancestors to Ellis Island.
An immigrant is a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country.

As a third grader it would be frightening because you might not pass the test and not be able to be with your family. And you won't know anyone that's there. Claire

DeleteOhh I also wanted to say that immagrants also got sick for there food witch was usaly dried meat [cold have been bad] dried hard bread and they usualy broght lime juice to drink to help them get vitamans they can't get beacause they can't bring fruit on the ship it will go bad. Alex Vires
