Haydn's Experiment...

Check out Haydn's Science Experiment he completed from our Science Newspaper.  He made a compass using a needle and a magnet.  Way to go Haydn!

Beginning Math...

What a crazy day of beginning math BUT you handle it like champs!  I was so impressed with how eager you were to learn new routines, how some of you persevered on the challenging pre-test for 3.NBT.1, and how quiet you were when we were in our Group Meetings.  Thank you for being the terrific 3rd graders you are.  You fuel my ride with positive energy.  When you read this post, you may clip up!

STAR Homework...

STAR homework begins on Monday.  There will be a slip of paper just like this and we will put this in your Nicky File.  You are responsible for bringing it back each day.  Whatever homework you do on Monday night will go on Monday - if you do more than three then just add them to the back of the paper.  I am excited to see what you can do with STAR homework!  Remember you can get on IXL, read a book, do the worksheets or even write a story - the possibilities are endless.  What will you do for homework tonight?

The Day the Supplies Quit!

It was a tense moment in class when we learned that our supplies were quitting.  Fortunately, the students were able to clean up the carts and write notes to the supplies convincing them to stay.  I believe that the Supplies have written back to each student.  Be sure to check for your letter on Thursday!

The Back of a Cat

Thanks to Cecily for bringing her back of a cat drawing to school.  We all drew a cat during DEAD time and then wrote why we thought the cat had her back turned.  What a great morning!

We are learning to Blog!

What a great day in the computer lab today.  Every student placed a comment under Our Window Garden.  We are concentrating on spelling correctly and using punctuation.  It is exciting to watch the students grow - they are growing just like the lima beans are growing!

Check out the lima beans and what they have done since last Monday when we 'planted' them.  Amazing!

Can you name 1 thing you (as a growing 3rd grader) would have in common with the growing lima beans?

Mystery Walker

Each time we walk in the hall, we have a mystery walker.  Who does the mystery walker represent when he or she walks down the hall?  Does he or she represent just himself or herself?  OR Does he or she represent our class?  What do you think?

Our Window Garden...

On the first day of school, each of you 'planted' 3 lima beans.  Some tucked the beans neatly inside the paper towel while some gently laid the beans on top.  Some left an opening for air and some closed the bag tightly.  Some doused the paper towel with tons of water and some just sprinkled the towel with water.

Tell me what you see as you observe the Window Garden this week.
