Ms. Sloan's Last Day...

We have loved having Ms. Sloan in our classroom.  She is a education major from Freed-Hardeman and is going to be a fabulous teacher!  We wish her the best as she student teaches next semester!  We love Ms. Sloan.

 

Trying out some Korean Culture!

Today, Jared and Sasha Gott came to visit our classroom.  Sasha spoke Korean and then taught us some words.  We played a Korean game like Sorry with Jared.  We made Korean food and drank Korean tea with Sasha.  It was a great day to learn about culture!

Veterans Day 2014

So proud of Cecily, Colston, Cecily, Cadence, Aleecia and Kady who spoke at the Veterans Day program.  It was a terrific day at East Chester.  I will have to say that our class was so respectful and so kind during the entire program.  Impressive 3rd graders!

What is competition?  We all like to compete in some area of our lives but the competition I am talking about is for land or food or other vital requirements to live.  

The definition of competition reads the struggle among organisms, both of the same and of different species, for food, space, and other vital requirements.

Vocabulary for 3.OA.3

3.OA.3 Vocabulary

An EQUATION is a number sentence with two sides that are equal.

An equation says that two things are equal. It will have an equals sign "=" like this:

That equation says: what is on the left (x + 2) 

is equal to what is on the right (6)

A SYMBOL is a picture that is used in place of a number or words.

A pattern or image used instead of words.

Another example: "+" is the symbol for "plus"

An UNKNOWN is a number you are trying to find in an equation.

The letter "x" is often used in algebra to mean a value that is not yet known. 

It is called a "variable" or sometimes an "unknown".

In x + 2 = 7, x is a variable, but we can work out its value if we try!

A variable doesn't have to be "x", it could be "y", "w" or any letter or symbol.
